How to Start and Build a Law Practice

2009/2010 ANNUAL REPORT:

This Section's membership grew for the 12th consecutive year, making it the fi fth largest Section in the MSBA. It held a "Suddenly Solo" program in Columbia, geared toward practitioners considering solo practice because of the effect of the economy on the legal profession, as well as two "Hanging Out a Shingle" programs, designed to help new attorneys start solo practices. The Section also videotaped its 11th Annual Solo and Small Firm Conference in November, making the videos available for purchase online.

PURPOSES

The purpose of this Section is to promote the solo and small firm practice of law and undertake such other and diverse activities authorized from time to time by the Association or the Officers and Council of the Section as shall enhance the competence and skills of solo and small firm practitioners, and improve their ability to deliver the most efficient and highest quality legal services to their clients. The activities of this Section are designed also to enhance the role of solo and small firm practitioners as contributing members and leaders of their communities, the legal profession and the Association.
