2009/2010 ANNUAL REPORT:

This Section supported a legislative agenda of 11 items, including an emergency bill to address the unexpected Federal estate tax lapse. It commented on, or assisted with, numerous other legislative items in the estate and trust law area that arose during the session. The Section worked with the Maryland Association of Judges of the Orphans’ Courts and the Registers of Wills to study and pursue legislation and create administrative procedures relating to the jurisdiction of the Orphans’ Courts for guardianship proceedings. It reviewed the Uniform Power of Attorney Act and related legislation and, after thoroughly reviewing and debating the provisions of the Act, supported a bill for passage. The Section supported a series of CLE courses, and it will present a program at the MSBA Annual Meeting.
