2009/2010 ANNUAL REPORT: |
This Section is concerned about the pretrial detention of
defendants charged with nonviolent offenses who cannot
afford bail money, particularly when less-onerous, nonfi nancial
alternatives exist for pretrial release. It investigated both
public and private-sector resources to determine the kinds
of assistance available before and after release from prison.
The Section continued its review of the social, economic and
legal problems faced by former prisoners upon their release
from incarceration. |
|
PURPOSES: |
|
The purposes of this Section are to stimulate interest of the members of
the Maryland Bar in the administration of the correctional system, to seek improvements
and reforms wherever needed in correctional facilities and services, and to coordinate the
activities in the field of correctional reform with other organizations and associations
working in the field.
